KLAUS STAECK POLITICAL POSTERS IN HAMBURG

Five decades of art and politics

OPENING RECEPTION
Thu, February 26, 2026 · 4 p.m. · Kennedy Bridge
Speaker: Dr. Carsten Brosda,
Senator for Culture and Media
Exhibition dates: February 26 – March 8, 2026

Starting on February 26, 2026, iconic political posters by Klaus Staeck will be on display in public spaces throughout Hamburg. The Hamburg poster competition Anfachen Award is dedicating an open-air retrospective to its patron.

To mark Staeck's 88th birthday, 77 poster motifs will be presented at three central locations: on the Kennedy Bridge, behind the main railway station, and in front of the town hall. Themes such as housing shortages, social inequality, and environmental destruction run through the artist's work—many of the motifs were created decades ago and are still shockingly relevant today.
The exhibition shows political poster art as a direct intervention
in public space – controversial, clear, and democratic.

LOCATIONS
On the Kennedy Bridge (Dammtor) · Behind the main train station (Schauspielhaus) · Next to the Reesendamm Bridge / in front of City Hall
